The Megaman Lair

"Fighting for everlasting peace!!"

The Megaman X Series

The Megaman X series is the continuation of the Classic Megaman series. As before, you fight 8 "Mavericks", as well as going through the fortress to tackle Sigma, the new main villain. The story is deeper this time, with a bigger plot. The main character of the series is X, a new maverick hunter. In the beginning of the first game, he gets rescued by an expert hunter, named Zero. Later on in the game, Zero dies to save X. In the series, you do see Zero dying, a lot, almost every other game actually.

Anyway, as I stated earlier, Sigma is the main villain, who spreads his virus around, causing any Reploid affected by it to go "Maverick".  When a Replooid goes Maverick, he essentially goes crazy.  X and Zero fight Sigma and the Mavericks constantly throughout the series.  Zero does not become playable until X3 (partially), and in X4, he is made into his own unique character.  X uses a buster, which is long range, while Zero uses close-range melee with his Zaber.

Later on in the series (X7), a new character is introduced; Axl, a young reploid.  Axl plays more like Bass from Megaman & Bass, as he has 8-way rapid fire.  He can hover as well, and he has a special ability called A-Trans.  This ability allows him to copy the forms of enemies.  The game has had 8 games, and it is unknown if there will be another.  At any rate, Sigma is presumed dead at the end of X8, as his Virus is left floating on the moon, and there is really nothing left he can do.  On another note, in X8, Sigma was not the final boss, but rather Lumine was, who was in charge of the Jakob Elevator project.

Another game in the X series was Megaman X: Command Mission.  In this game, X, Zero, and new hunter Shadow travel to Giga City to fight against the rebellion army under the commond of Redips.  Along the way they meet many friends and enemies.  Interestingly enough, these are prbably the most powerful enemies the hunters have fought, as many of the hunters lose fights when matched one-on-one against the Mavericks.  The final boss is more than likely the strongest final boss in Megaman canon, period.  The game is an RPG, and the battle system is pretty interesting as well.  All in all, the game's awesome!

Lastly, the X series had 2 games for the gameboy color.  Megaman Xtreme 1 and 2 were their names.  They pretty much played like X games, and it actually introduced the Tag function that was seen in the later Megaman X games.  There were also 2 unique villains in the second game, Gareth and Berkana, who were responsible for erasing the souls of reploids.

In conclusion, this is a pretty good series, one of my personal favorites!
